Halloween is Coming.....

Hey Chicas!

So tomorrow is Halloween.  I know that some people are anti Halloween, I think, that they don't think that they can dress up anymore when they get a little older.  Well those people are.....well....wrong!  You can still have loads of fun with it.

On Friday night Andrew and I went down to Belfast Corn Maze with another couple.  Let's just say that it was super crazy, and the boys had the flashlights, but when something crawled out from the corn maze and grabbed our legs, we just took off.  We did manage to stop after our sprint, but only once we realized that we didn't have a light and we couldn't see anything it was pitch black.  We had left the boys behind with the flashlight, along with our mitts!  So it was a great night, the maze was really well planned out and done, not overly scary but just enough.  Its a definite must see for next year.  Just click the link above to check it out.

The fiance and I went to a house party last night.  Yeah, one that I was notified about on Friday night after work.  So the planning stage of my outfit was way, way more limited than what I'm used to.  Lets all keep in mind, for those that don't know, when I got back from Fashion Week I got Strep Throat, so that's still totally hanging around. And after being out in the weather the night before, with all that wind, it really didn't do me any favors. 

Last year we went as couple costume, which was pretty good.

So this year we had to do it better.  But with a smaller time frame it was hard to do.  Andrew was out of the province for the day so it was all up to me.  Luckily the night before we had a pow-ow with the other couple for costumes and came up with something for everyone.  I was going to go as Black Swan, and Andrew wanted to go as Goose from Top Gun. (if you are reading my blog and don't know what Top Gun is, go rent it, watch it, and then come back!)

It was a lot harder to get Andrews figured out surprisingly as they don't really sell olive green coveralls anymore, don't know when that happened, but the are all blue.  So I grabbed a par of old beige ones from my dad, and decided to dye it.  

Did you know that polyester doesn't take dye that well.  Yeah well I found that one out the hard and long way.  So at 5:40 last night we had to go and find another option (we as in me and my mom).  We ended up getting a painter coverall's; you know those white zipper ones with a hood, and a can of "Camp Green" spray paint.  I was just going to cut off the hood and make it a collar, and spray paint the crap out of it.  Mine was mostly just some feather boas, for a skirt everything else I already owned.   

Our costume  totals came to $23 for Andrews, and $12 for mine.  That's pretty sweet for all DIYed costumes.  As that's how we roll, no bought costumes in this household!

Halloween

Hey Chicas!!

So as Halloween is now over (i kinda wish it would have lasted longer :()  Sigh....  I promised that I would show some pictures on my blog, of my costume, and I promised some coworkers I would take some pictures.  So I thought that this would be the best way to show them and let you my blog followers see what our costumes looked like.

So the BF had this idea this year, and I'm surprised that it turned out this good!  I was a Golddigger, and he was a Money Bags, cute right?  The best part of our costumes were they were 100% made by us, we didn't buy a costume set off the net or anything....which I think is the most fun of getting ready for Halloween.

So all in all it was a good night, and we had a lot of fun making it, and attending the house party.  I hope that your Halloween was lot of fun too!

Monsters Inc. Wreath

Hey Chicas!

So this is Halloween weekend, even though where I live we don't really have too many little trick-or-treaters but I still enjoy decorating for the night!

I always like taking something that is no longer being used and changing it up to be something else.  And with Halloween it is no different.  This is my latest creation, and I have to say I absolutely love it!!!!

It reminds me of the monsters from Monsters Inc., it must be the combination of the color and the big eyes!

 It is really cute and pretty darn simple to make, my wreath is about 17'' wide, with the centre hole around 4".

All you need is some fuzzy/furry material, I actually used an old pillow that was no longer being used.  They usually look like this, and we got ours at Wally-Mart. 

We were actually going to buy some fabric, but it was really expensive  like $25/yard, for a Halloween wreath, umm....no thanks.  I checked out Wal-Mart and they actually have a fuzzy rug, for about $20, that has a backing already, and it would make 2 wreaths, and you already would have the backing for the back of the wreath, so you have all your fabric.  For my wreath, I simply used some scrap pieces of fleece material, but anything would work, the fleece was the best color match, and since I'm a little anal retentive, color matching is a must for me, but don't feel that yours has to match!

Then all you need are a variety of foam size balls ranging from 1" - 2", I like the variety of eye ball shapes.  Then you need a black sharpie, to make the pupils, and I varied the sizes for more of a monstery feel.  Finally a small glue gun, and lots and lots of glue sticks, the color doesn't matter as it will not show.  These materials can be picked up at any dollar store.

So the steps.

1. Place the fabric good side down (fuzzy side) and trace a circle (mine is oval to maximize the size of the square pillow) to the desired outside size, and trace the inner circle (hint: make the inner cut smaller then you think you want it, as when you sew it up it will stretch)

2. Cut the edges and centre off, while holding the scissors on a slant so that you don't cut off a flat edge of the fur.

3. Place your fur cut fabric on the backing fabric and simply trace around the edges adding a 1/2" all around so that it can be more fluffy and hold more stuffing.

4. Place the good sides together (the fur side and good side of the other fabric) and stitch the outer edges together. (this can be done by hand or a sewing machine, either one works)

5. Turn right side out, and pull out the edges of the fur that have been caught in the stitching to allow for more furriness.

6. Stuff it!  I used the stuffing from the pillow I took apart, but plastic bags and fabric remnants will work too!

7.  Hand stitch the inner circle together.

8.  Stitch a looped end onto the back of the wreath for hanging, as shown above, I used some scraps of the fur so it blended.

9.  Heat up the glue gun!  It will be your best friend.

10. Make the pupils on the foam balls using the black sharpie, and making varying sizes.

11. Separate the fur apart on the wreath so you can see the bottom of the fabric it's attached to.

12. Place a big dollop of glue on the back of the foam eyes, and place on the wreath in the separated part of the wreath so it sticks to the fabric, not just the fur! (this will help the eyes to stay on longer and not wobble )

13. Repeat until the number of eyes suits you!

There are a lot of steps, but I stated little things that didn't really need to be, but what can ya do!

In total I spent only $5 on the foam balls, as everything else I had at home, so search around and see what you find, is there an old blanket, a fur vest/coat you can use.

HellCats Halloween How-to

Hey Chicas!


I know its early but for all of those planners out there, we like to know what is going on before Halloween comes, so I thought I would give some makeup and hair tips on some costume ideas.  If you have more ideas on what you are going to be, let me know and I'll do a makeup tutorial on them!


 Here is my HellCats version of the competition to get into Regionals.  I chose the character Marti, because I love her! 

The picture to the right is of her, and the picture to the left is obviously me!



The look is great it would be good for any cheerleading costume.  The bold makeup is very pretty and noticeable but still not unwearable, but I wouldn't recommend you rockin' this at work.  I used all drugstore products except for one which was a BedHead product but can easily be duped by any blue, it was just the only one I had on hand.  So the list of prodcuts are:

All products are from the drugstore, and farily priced, all colors can be used in your regular makeup routine.  All the brushes that were used are ecotools, and in the travel set sizes, they are awesome brushes and can be purchased at Atlantic SuperStore!

These colors really give you the exact same colors as on the show.  I have a comparison picture of the work I'm so proud of!

The eye on top are Marti's from HellCats, and the lower ones of my peepers!
